Level of Service (LoS) Monitoring
Level of Service (LoS) monitoring is a systematic approach used to evaluate the effectiveness and reach of sanitation initiatives. A key component of this process is the Red/Green analysis, which provides a clear visual representation of performance across various indicators. Additionally, Sustainable Services Checklists (SSC) are utilized to assess the functionality, management, and sustainability of water and sanitation systems in target areas.
To ensure accountability and transparency, a tracking spreadsheet is maintained. This document records progress, tracks the number of individuals reached through these interventions, and helps quantify the impact population—the beneficiaries of the services provided. Cost analysis is also an integral part of LoS monitoring, as it helps determine the resources needed to achieve universal and sustainable access, aligning with the vision of services for "Everyone Forever."
Sustainable Services Checklist (SSC)
The Sustainable Services Checklist (SSC) is a tool designed to strengthen the capacity and accountability of local service authorities. It focuses on three key areas:
Service Authority Structure and Management:
Emphasizes building the capacity of service authorities to effectively plan, regulate, and manage sanitation services. It also supports creating an enabling environment for private sector participation in the sanitation ecosystem.
Service Authority Finance:
Aims to improve financial planning by equipping authorities with the tools to budget for infrastructure, allocate funds appropriately, and cover direct support costs tied to sanitation services.
Service Authority Monitoring:
Enhances the ability of district-level authorities to systematically monitor and evaluate sanitation services. This includes tracking performance, ensuring service delivery standards, and informing evidence-based decision-making.
Together, these components ensure that sanitation services are not only implemented effectively but also sustained over time with strong institutional support.
